Comcast Corp’s (NASDAQ:) Universal Pictures dominated Sunday’s Academy Awards ceremony, helped by historical drama “Oppenheimer,” which won seven Oscars, including best picture.
The film about the father of the atomic bomb won in several major categories, including Oscars for best director for Christopher Nolan, leading actor for Cillian Murphy and best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr.
“The Leftovers,” Universal’s Focus Features film about a strict teacher at a New England boarding school who is forced to look after students unable to return home for Christmas, won best supporting actress for Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
Disney’s Searchlight division has won five Oscars. Four of them went to the film “Poor Folks”, a reimagining of the story of Frankenstein, which brought Emma Stone the award for best actress. Searchlight also won an Oscar for his documentary short The Last Repair Shop.
Netflix (NASDAQ:) won its only award for Wes Anderson’s 39-minute short film “The Marvelous Story of Henry Sugar.”
Apple (NASDAQ:) was not among Sunday’s winners. He produced the Best Picture-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon, which depicts the murders of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s.
