WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Donald Trump called Stanley on Saturday Woodward (NASDAQ:), a lawyer who has defended several of the new president’s top aides and associates, as well as people charged in the January 6, 2021 attack, to join his White House legal team.
The Trump transition team said in a statement that Woodward will serve as assistant to the president and senior adviser and will work closely with Trump’s White House chief of staff, formerly Susie Wiles.
Last month, Trump appointed David Warrington as his top lawyer to lead the White House legal team, reversing the course previously taken by William McGinley, who had moved to work with an outside team led by billionaire Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
Trump is scheduled to take office on January 20.
Woodward, based in Washington, has represented several people in Trump’s circle over the years, including adviser Dan Scavino, trade adviser Peter Navarro and aide Walt Nauta.
He also represented some of those charged in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, including Oath Keeper Kelly Meggs.
Trump also said three aides who served in his first White House term would return: Robert Gabriel, Nicholas Luna and William “Bo” Harrison.
