FRANKFURT (Reuters) – The Lufthansa cabin crew union called on its members to strike at Lufthansa and short-haul carrier CityLine on Tuesday and Wednesday to press their demands for higher pay.
The flight attendants’ union UFO said on Saturday that the strike, voted in favor by its members, would affect departures from Frankfurt Airport on Tuesday and departures from Munich on Wednesday.
Lufthansa said around 100,000 passengers were likely to be affected.
The airline group warned on Thursday that its first-quarter operating loss would widen and gave a subdued outlook for 2024 as it battles costly labor disputes while offsetting a tourism boom.
European airlines have benefited from unprecedented post-pandemic demand, allowing them to raise prices, but higher labor and maintenance costs have limited revenue growth.
Lufthansa in particular agreed to new wage increases to end strikes that analysts and investors say threaten its 2024 operating profitability target.
On Thursday, Lufthansa ground staff walked off the job, and on Wednesday cabin crew voted to strike, demanding a 15% pay rise.
