BEIJING (Reuters) – China attaches “great importance” to Donald Trump’s remarks, the Foreign Ministry said in response to the U.S. president-elect’s comments on Monday that he was holding talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping through aides.
Trump said he believed he and Xi would get along but it would have to be a “two-way street,” reiterating that China was “ripping off” the US economically.
The ministry spokesman did not confirm the exchange of views through the leaders’ aides, but said China and the US maintain contact in various ways.
