(Reuters) -German automaker BMW (ETR:) reported a slight rise in first-quarter sales on Wednesday, driven in part by demand for electric vehicles, as it welcomed delivery of its millionth all-electric vehicle, a major milestone for the company.
BMW delivered a total of 594,671 vehicles in the first quarter, up 1.1% from the same period last year, the company said.
Sales of electric vehicles in the first three months of the year amounted to 82,700 units, up 27.9% from last year.
In March, BMW said it expected its spending on the transition to all-electric models to peak in 2024.
The group expects shipments of all-electric vehicles and premium vehicles to lead to a slight increase in vehicle deliveries in 2024, it said.
