(Reuters) – Facebook parent company Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:) has discussed integrating Meta’s generative artificial intelligence model into Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:) recently announced artificial intelligence system for the iPhone, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.
In addition to Google (NASDAQ:) and Meta, artificial intelligence startups Anthropic and Perplexity are also in talks with Apple to bring their generative AI to Apple Intelligence, the Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Apple, Meta, Perplexity and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside business hours.
Discussions are still ongoing and could fall apart, the magazine said, adding that deals with Apple would help artificial intelligence companies gain wider distribution for their products.
The size of the potential financial windfall is unclear, but the talks included artificial intelligence companies that sell premium subscriptions to their services through Apple Intelligence, the report said.
The iPhone maker announced a long-awaited artificial intelligence strategy this month, saying it would integrate new Apple Intelligence technology into its suite of apps, including Siri, and bring the Microsoft-backed OpenAI ChatGPT chatbot to its devices.
