(Reuters) – ChatGPT maker OpenAI said on Tuesday it was delaying the release of its Voice Mode feature by a month until July due to technical problems.
The company had originally planned to roll out realistic voice conversation to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users at the end of June, but said it was delaying this as it needed time to reach launch standards.
“For example, we are improving the model’s ability to detect and reject certain content. We are also working to improve the user experience and prepare our infrastructure to scale to millions while maintaining real-time responses,” OpenAI said in a post on the OpenAI website. social media platform X.
The feature will initially be available to a small group of users to gather feedback and will be rolled out to all Plus users in the fall, subject to security and reliability reviews, the company said.
OpenAI is also working to introduce new video and screen sharing capabilities.
In May, the company said it would release a new artificial intelligence model called GPT-4o, capable of life-like voice conversation and interaction through text and images. It’s its latest move to stay ahead in the race to dominate new artificial intelligence technologies.
New audio capabilities will allow users to talk to ChatGPT and receive real-time responses without delay, as well as interrupt ChatGPT mid-conversation—both hallmarks of realistic conversations that AI voice assistants have found challenging.
