Workers in first Apple Store to unionize has now also authorized the first strike across the tech giant’s retail operations.
Workers at an Apple Store in Towson, Maryland, voted late Saturday to authorize a strike, according to a statement from the International Association of Machinists and the Coalition of Organized Retail Aerospace Workers, which represents the workers.
No strike date has been set. The vote followed what the union called “more than a year of negotiations with Apple management that produced unsatisfactory results.”
According to the statement, workers are seeking changes to so-called “unpredictable” scheduling practices and wages that match local living costs.
“We deeply value our team members and are proud to provide them with industry-leading compensation and exceptional benefits,” Apple said in a statement provided by a spokesperson. “As always, we will cooperate respectfully and in good faith with the union representing our team in Towson.”
